The Most Dangerous Road in the World

Over the past couple of years I have noticed a number of articles about the Yungas road in Bolivia commonly known as “the world’s most dangerous road” (A.K.A. “the road of death”) because over 100 people die while traveling the road every year. Between La Paz and Coroico, located in the Bolivian Andes, a 70 km (40 mile) stretch of this road ranges from a height of 4,700 m (15,400 ft) down to 1,100 m (3,600 ft); a drop of 3,600 m (11,800 ft). In addition to the articles I have read, I have also found a good number of videos taken by both drivers and mountain bikers who have traveled the road.
The road appears to be very popular with mountain bikers who hire companies to guide them on a trip down the road. The majority of videos that I found were taken by these mountain bikers. My favorite of these shows a group of bikers riding just mere feet from the edge of a cliff. You have to have a lot of confidence in your biking skills to try this.
Another video I found provides an example of the view you get from a vehicle traveling down the road.
I also found this informative video, provided by the National Geographic Channel
Finally, after many years of use and hundreds of deaths, the road has been replaced by a much safer paved road, leaving only thrill-seeking mountain bikers who are willing to risk the trip.
